This website invites those who are concerned with the issues related to Islam and Indonesia to express their opinions. Our themes are opened widely ranging from theological, historical, political, scientific to even ordinary thinking of those who humbly regard themselves as common people.

We accept articles either in Bahasa Indonesia or English, as long as they accord with our purposes. That is, to discover the unique characters of Indonesian Islam, such as by exploring the process of assimilation between Islam and Indonesian cultures. Thus, we are eager to publish any studies, observations, or opinions concerning interpretation of Islam.

The style of writing:

Unlike op-ed articles for newspapers, we do not demand any particular topics or themes that are relevant to up-to-date issues. Nor do we request contributors to follow certain style of academic writings, such as journals. We appreciate any style–from narrative, poetry, inverview, to any kinds as long as understandable.

For those whose English does not serve as mother tongue, we suggest them to write simple sentences. Avoid as much as possible complicated sentences, such as too many clauses or sub-clauses. In this way, errors can be minimized. We also suggest them to use active sentences: subject-predicate-object. See also Inside Indonesia. However, we do not follow strict Australian English.

Consult to good English dictionary for every word you write whether it really reflects what you mean. Do not invent new expressions. Try to use words or phrases that native speakers have commonly used, such as in newspapers or books.

Note that our audiences vary and imagine that they are general readers who are not always familiar with the subjects. Do not use jargons, nor do adapt an academic style directly. Make the readers understand easily what you are writing. The less effort to grasp the subject, the more advisable it is.

Try to focus on one main story. Pick an ‘angle’ that would be interesting to readers.
As for Indonesian acronyms, follow: The Jakarta Post.

Transliteration:

For Indonesian transliteration, follow EYD (Ejaan Yang Disempurnakan). For Arabic, we do not suggest you to apply any strict and detailed one, such as using long and short vocal. However, in general use the following:

We cannot pay the writers yet. However, please imagine that once we publish your writing in this website, we will not remove it. Our readers, increasingly growing across five continents of the world, will read it.

Situs ini mengajak siapa saja yang tertarik dengan tema-tema Islam dan Indonesia untuk menulis di sini. Tema tersebut dibuka seluas mungkin dari persoalan politik, sejarah, sains dan teknologi, ataupun pendapat yang biasa-biasa saja dari mereka yang menempatkan dirinya sebagai orang-orang biasa.

Kami menerima artikel, baik dalam bahasa Indonesia maupun Inggris untuk dipublikasikan dalam situs ini. Namun, kami akan mengedit artikel yang masuk agar sesuai dengan tujuan keberadaan situs ini, yaitu untuk mengungkap karakter Islam Indonesia yang unik dan khas, mengembangkan wacana serta kajian tentang Islam lokal Indonesia. Kita dengan senang hati memuat tulisan-tulisan dari hasil studi, pengamatan, pandangan-pandangan, ataupun interpretasi Islam.

Gaya tulisan:

Kita tidak mengharuskan tulisan berkait dengan isu-isu hangat dan terkini, sebagaimana opini di koran. Demikian juga, kita tidak menuntut agar mengikuti standard ilmiyah tertentu, sebagaimana jurnal. Kita menghargai segala kreativitas gaya tulisan: narasi, puisi, wawancara dan bentuk lainnya asal bisa dimengerti.

Namun Anda tetap diharapkan menggunakan bahasa Indonesia yang baik, benar, dan efektif. Silakan ikuti EYD (Ejaan Yang Disempurnakan). Hindari penggunaan jargon dan istilah-istilah ilimiyah dan akademik. Bayangkan bahwa para pembaca website ini terdiri dari berbagai lapisan. Lebih sederhana dari segi bahasa sehingga apa yang Anda tulis lebih mudah dimengerti, akan lebih baik.

Berusahalah untuk fokus pada satu cerita utama. Ambil sisi yang menarik untuk para pembaca.
